Design II

These designs were made during the 2011-2012 course on the Design II subject, in the University of Navarra.
Closed block houses

The building is locacted in a closed block with established measures, located in this case towards the south.

We locate the housings around the centers for vertical communication, 32 houses organised in 5 different floors. As we ascend, the number of houses decreases, and a series of terraces appear, gaining light and ventilation.

These are the two main problems we face, given de 25m width. To solve these problems, we create three different courtyards, which enables us the ventilation of the houses and the centers of ventical communication

Industrialised houses

The building is located in Bilbao, Vizcaya (Spain). Every house in facing the river.

We create two different tipes of houses. The first of these are open-ended units, the second duplex, organised in two floors. In the fist of these, the private rooms are located in a different level from the common areas, like the kitchen or the living room. The second type is organised in a different way. The acces is made through a different level from the private or common areas.

The steel structure, hidden to the exterior but visible in the interior, as well as the materials used on the facade, enable a quick execution.

Office of Student Activities, Como (Italia)
Cover, Rada (Navarra)

The building is located next to the "Casa del Fascio", at Como (Italy). As this building is intended to be used by students, the building is facing this magnificent building. To get a difference between the bedrooms and the studying areas, we create on the inside diffenten levels, originating by this different volumes, one of them a square and the other one an L shape.

Each of these volumes has different uses. The square, facing the "Casa del Fascio" contains the studying areas, while the other one contains the bedrooms and communal areas. Due to the different levels inside the building, the sight of the "Casa del Fascio" is possible from everywhere inside the building.

This two different volumes are joined and communicated by a central courtyard, so that both, the studying areas and the bedrooms are related.

The cover is made by a steel structure and ceramic materials.

The main goal is to enable the views of the ruins from an upper possition. So we design a combination of two different types of roofs, a plain and wakable one, and an inclined one. By this combination we manage the view, as we have said, from an upper possition, and the maintenance of the ruins, thanks to the inclined roofs.
